Welcome to the Newstead Abbey adopt a stone website

Newstead Abbey's medieval church West Front is an architectural gem under attack by the effects of time, weather and pollution. It was placed on the Buildings at Risk Register in 1998. Specialist conservation work is needed urgently to save it from certain destruction.

A local landmark since 1270s, the West Front is internationally known for its powerful associations with the life and work of Lord Byron, whose poems celebrate its delicate beauty and colourful history.

The work will take 10 years to complete and will cost nearly £1.3 million. We are seeking donations and sponsorship from organisations and individuals to help fund this activity.

One way that individuals or organisations can help is to 'Adopt a Stone'. The scheme gives the unique opportunity to dedicate a stone to perhaps celebrate a birth, wedding, engagement or a loved one.

Each donor has a constant presence on our website beside their stone and dedication. Dedications and a 'Book of Adopters' is also on permanent display at Newstead Abbey.

Adopting a Stone is easy. Just click on a section of the West Front to see the availability and price of a stone. Once you've chosen your stone you can chose to complete the form online or print off the form and send it back to us here at Newstead Abbey.

Thank you for supporting and maintaining the West Front at Newstead Abbey.
