Exchanging your council home

All City Council tenants with a secure tenancy have the right to exchange their home with another council tenant or Housing Association tenant. Please note that introductory tenants do not have the right to exchange their home.

As a secure tenant you can now apply for an exchange on-line by following the stages laid out below. All tenants involved in the exchange (usually 2 parties are involved but there could be more) must complete the relevant application forms to commence the procedure. You can apply to exchange with a Housing Association tenant who may be a secure or an assured tenant. If you are not sure what sort of tenancy they have, please ask them to check with their Association.

Once the forms are completed, staff from all offices concerned will check the details on the forms and visit your home. Read the conditions
